Remember when The American Family Association said in an email that the lack of school prayer actually affected teen pregnancy rates? Well, Rafael Cruz wanted a nice chunk of that -crazy- cake.
Recently at the Family Research Council Watchmen on the Wall conference, Cruz decided to say that the first amendment does not have an affect on “the church from having an influence on every area of society, as we should." Which is wrong. The whole point of the first amendment is to protect both sides from trouble. If the church affects the state it can affect personal freedom of citizens. There would be no right to be any religion one wishes, blasphemy would land you in prison for life, abortion would be outlawed more than it already is -as well as miscarriages-, and homosexuality would be punishable by death. Those things aren't my own paranoia it's things the Christian Right has proposed but thankfully due to things such as the First Amendment have been struck down.
His piece of "evidence" for the fall of America after the removal of school led prayer is the increases of teen pregnancy. However, his glasses must not be working to great since the teen pregnancy rates have declined for the US since 1970. Facts though are not important to Cruz. Only thing he'll ever believe is the Bible, a book that says rabbits chew cud.
He ended this ridiculous rant with this great little thing: “But the more important question is, will God hold us accountable for our silence?” I have the answer to this question. It's super simple, no. Why? Because he's not real.
