“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” Robertson said to GQ. “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.” - Phil Robertson
This is the statement that has landed Mr. Robertson in some hot water in the last few days. Before you start on the "freedom of speech" bandwagon and demand he be returned to the air by next week lets take a moment and think on why he was removed from the show to begin with. -I'm assuming that everyone already, by now, knows the story if you don't please go look it up I'm positive it wont take you but five minutes if that.-
On an issue such as this I would normally agree with the speaker that it all was a matter of freedom of speech but not this time. No, my reason isn't because I'm a LGBT supporter but because something else entirely. Mr. Robertson is/was a representative of A&E. Meaning his actions reflected back onto the channel. Good or bad he was an extension of A&E. The shall we call "Duck Department." We've all seen the "The actions and opinions of this show does not directly relate with [Insert channel name here]'s opinions or believes." If not exactly that some form of it. That's there to protect the channel and it's sponsors.
"GLAAD immediately called for the network to take action: "Phil's decision to push vile and extreme stereotypes is a stain on A&E and his sponsors who now need to reexamine their ties to someone with such public disdain for LGBT people and families."
So even if they agreed with him they would have to have some sort of repercussion to keep viewers and sponsors. Of course both ways you look at it they're going to lose in some way. Now due to the suspension which is "indefinite" they are bound to lose viewers. Of course you'll have those who watch more now just to see if he shows up in the conversations or in the back-ground. Also this is free advertisement for not only Duck Dynasty but also for A&E. Soooo even if you now hate A&E with a fiery passion you're kinda helping them out. It's been almost a full 24 hours since the decision to suspend him was written into stone and already there are Instagram pages (One I found has already 391 followers.) as well as a Face Book page (which as a million and counting likes.). I'm beginning to wonder if anyone has thought of the problem that A&E is in? No sympathy for them? I think they deserve it most. Thanks to Phil they're now at risk at losing a large part of their income. He wasn't "preaching truth" he was spewing hate. You can't say what you please then shout "My god told me this was right so you can't touch me!" That's to the equivalent of a child shoving their finger in their ears and shouting "I can't hear you!"
Hey! Don't get upset at me. This is just my "freedom of speech."
